Our Services

  • Planning and Noise Control

    PLANNING & NOISE CONTROL

RF Environmental can provide noise and vibration assessments to support a range of planning applications, including residential schemes, industrial and commercial developments, leisure facilities, waste management sites and transportation schemes. Our services include the measurement and assessment of noise and vibration following recognised standards, the preparation and submission of environmental statements for EIA and the provision of expert witness evidence at planning enquiries.

  • Demolition and Construction

    Construction Management and S61 Applications

The construction of buildings and infrastructure can create unwanted effects of noise, vibration and air quality on surrounding communities. We work with contractors through the construction phase to find solutions and minimise adverse impacts.

    Our services include:

    • • Real-time monitoring of noise, vibration and dust
    • • Compliance reporting
    • • Demolition and construction management plans and s61
    • • Client stakeholder and regulator engagement

A combination of real-time monitoring and web-based management enable site teams to take corrective action before noise, vibration and dust limits are breached. The monitoring outputs can be accessed online 24/7 and can be complimented by a range of management tools, including alerts and guidance on compliance reporting.

  • Licensed Premises

    Building Acoustics

We can provide expertise in architectural acoustic design on a range of development projects.

Appropriate consideration of acoustic design for internal building fabric and the correct specification of external building fabric (glazed and non-glazed) will minimise noise break-in, enhance privacy and boost amenity value.

With all our projects, we take account of relevant design standards, including:

    • • Building regulations Approved Document E
    • • Building Bulletin 93 (BB93) Acoustic design of schools
    • • BS8233 ‘Sound Insulation and noise reduction for buildings – code of practice
    • • BREEAM
    • • Heath Technical Memorandum 08-01
  • Noise at Work Assessments

    NOISE AT WORK ASSESSMENTS

We can help you fulfil your responsibilities under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, by completing a comprehensive assessment of employee noise exposure at your premises. A detailed investigation of workplace noise exposure levels and employee working practices will allow us to develop an appropriate plan to help you eliminate or reduce the risk of noise exposure to a level that is as low as reasonably practicable, as required by the Regulations.

  • Nuisance Investigations

    Air Quality Assessments

With the risks to health from poor air quality becoming ever more apparent, air quality assessment is now a regular requirement for new developments.

Our air quality services include the modelling, monitoring and assessment of air quality for residential and commercial developments. These assessments are undertaken in accordance with national, regional and local air quality guidance.

Depending on the location of the development, additional elements may be added to the air quality assessment to ensure compliance with Local Planning Authority requirements. These include air quality neutral assessments (London only), emission mitigation statements and/or damage cost calculations.

  • Vibration

    Noise and Vibration Surveys

At RF Environmental, we have extensive experience in undertaking comprehensive noise and vibration surveys.

Both long term unattended surveys and short-term attended surveys can be completed, using precision noise and vibration monitoring equipment.

Noise surveys will be required for most developments, to establish baseline conditions and to understand the acoustic character for a particular site. For residential schemes, the noise survey will be used to determine site suitability and to inform on appropriate acoustic design requirements during the planning stage.

Vibration surveys may also be required where developments are proposed near to existing sources of ground-borne vibration such as railway lines and industrial facilities, to assess the risk of human exposure to the vibration and inform on appropriate scheme of mitigation, where required.

  • BS4142 Assessments

    Mechanical Plant Noise Assessments

British Standard BS4142 provides the method for assessing and rating noise impact from industrial and commercial developments on noise sensitive developments. Having provided training workshops and presentations on the implementation of BS4142, consultants at RF Environmental have extensive experience in undertaking assessments following the principles and methodology of the standard.

RFE also assist with the design and implementation of internal building services and HVAC systems, carrying out detailed assessments of noise breakout and specifying appropriate mitigation to ensure that internal ventilation systems can comply with project specific noise limits.
